Creating the blog
Introduction⌗
I’ve decided to blog about my homelab experience, and I’m starting with my experinece setting up this blog.
Domains and Hosting⌗
Registrar and DNS⌗
I use Cloudflare for my domain registrar, DNS hosting, and other basic functionality.
I used to use GoDaddy as my registrar of choice, but I’ve found Cloudflare to actually be cheaper. Cloudflare includes private registration for supported TLDs with the registration, and they seem to be one of the cheaper ones around.
I also switched from ZoneEdit to Cloudflare for DNS management. The integration with certbot and LetsEncrypt is what originally drew me to Cloudflare.
The one downside I’ve seen is that I can’t delegate access to a subset of my domains on the free tier. You have to set up multiple accounts, or upgrade to enterprise, which is prohibitively expensive for my use.
Hosting⌗
I’m using a combination of Cloudflare Pages, Hugo, and Github to host this site essentially for free.
